We demonstrate that all the persuasive-type, linguistic and stylistic resources are used in the adverts contained in major French and Spanish magazines. Six types of resources are highlighted: exhortation, synthesis, innovation, conversance, repetition and rhetoric. This wide range of resources allows us to show that such texts present all the linguistic, extralinguistic, cultural and semiotic challenges present in other text forms. Thus advertisements are a valuable didactic resource in developing translators in their early learning stages.
