Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the specific French and Spanish vocabularies used in the wine-tasting process, in an attempt to establish their level of specificity. Specific nouns and adjectives coexist alongside general language lexical units which acquire new shades of meaning and thus become specific terms themselves. This study also includes certain metaphors used in this language, and concludes that their usage responds to an underlying conceptual metaphor, common to the minds of oenological experts, which considers and describes wine as if it were a living, and often human, being.
