An undetermined legal concept is an imprecise expression used in a legal norm to refer to situations opened to different interpretations. From a linguistic perspective, undetermined legal concepts are lexicalised units that are unanimously accepted among jurists. From a morphological point of view, undetermined legal concepts are phraseological units that have a stereotyped form and belong to the suborational level, since they are, in most cases, syntagmatic compounds or locutions. From the semantic point of view, their meaning does not always result from the sum of the meanings of their components, although they have an internal structure which guides their interpretation. In this paper we want to answer the following questions: What are the phraseological characteristics of undeterminated legal concepts? How can undeterminate legal concepts be translated? In order to answer these questions, we take into consideration the theoretical contributions of legal doctrine and the methodological observations from the field of translatology, and we propose some strategies for identifying and translating these phraseological units.
