Abstract

Proverbs are frozen sentences of didactic value that fonn part of our cultural heritage.Proverbs have been studied in terms oí semantics, stylistics and pragmatics, and to a lesser extent from the point oí view of syntax. For the present study a corpus of Portuguese and Spanish proverbs was established. The framework adopted for thc lcxical and syntactical description is Lexican-Grammar as defined by Maurice Gross (1975, 1981). The aim of this study is to compare Portuguese and Spanish proverbs containing designations of professions.
