Resumo
This article builds on previously published work to attempt to establish a typology of distortion or dysfunction in translation practice, by degree of intensity or deceit: such practices range from those which can be considered unharmful or justified, such as pseudotranslation or certain kinds of self‐translation, to, at the other extreme, those which involve fraud, in the sense of translation error including criminal practice, such as plagiarism. The typology also includes what might be called cheats or tricks, that is, harmless delusions for the reader, such as fake originals and indirect translations
