Abstract
This article puts into context the treatment of fixed expressions in Le traité de stylistique ([Heidelberg, 1909 and 1921] 1951) of Charles Bally. The matter has aroused a quantitatively and qualitatively important linguistic literature, particularly after the research of Igor Melèuk in the semantic-lexical combination and Maurice Gross works in syntactic-semantics, rooted in a distributionalist basis. Previously, Bally had applied these phraseological series to the double aim of languages identification and delimitation of expressions facts linked to affectivity (considered in opposition to expressions facts of thought). In the framework of linguistics budgets, typical of Ballys stylistics, the analysis of fixed expressions will allow this linguist to establish its main characteristics (both lexical and semantic, though not syntactical). Nevertheless, contrary to recent studies in this field, in fact theoretical- it will be put into the service of French learning which is supported by what could be called a corpus avant la lettre- for the purpose of language learning.
