Abstract

In the general framework of universal function of « participation », this paper analyses the scalar differences in the expression of agentivity (i.e. the presence of the agent of an action) according to the degree of appropriateness to the « prototype » notion in two typologically and genetically related languages, French and Spanish. The research shows that, in spite of the observed differences, there exists in both languages a form-meaning « co-variation » (a complete iconicity) in the expression of this linguistic phenomenon in French and Spanish.
