Resum

Although the publication of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) by the Council of Europe is not sufficiently known in our country, it has already had an impact at all levels of language education, especially the elaboration of new materials for the teaching and learning of foreign languages. This article presents a number of background factors relevant to foreign language learning in Spain and discusses some fragmentary aspects in the CEF in order to establish some parameters for teaching innovation, especially with respect to learning activities in the language classroom.
