Abstract

This paper focuses on James Hervey, prose writer traditionally related to the Graveyard School, on his work, Meditations among the Tombs, and on Pierre Le Tourneur’s French translation of the aforementioned work. Thus the main aim of this study is to highlight Le Tourneur’s translation strategies which underlie the French version by carrying out a comparative-descriptive analysis of both works. This will allow us to classify Le Tourneur’s methodology within one of Dryden’s translational types, that is, metaphrase, paraphrase and imitation.
