Abstract

Weather proverb hardly appeared in medieval paremiological collections, perhaps due to their local characteristics and immorality, features move them away from popular proverb. Neverthless, some centuries later, weather proverbs will appear in proverb collections, where those applied to May constitute a corpus of a certain relevance. The fields in May, green tinged, show the beginning of Spring. Temperatures facilitate seed germination and will make agricultural work easier, though severe frost might arrive. The importance of the month of May for the countryman is shown by the great number of proverbs gathered in the pages of the collections of the XVII century
