Abstract

This paper examines the problems posed at different stages of the process of translation of verb phrases. The various problems are mainly caused by the degree of phraseological competence of users because expressions are not included in monolingual or bilingual dictionaries. We analyze some of the existing proposals in order to find the phraseological equivalents to tackle the cultural contents and to show the difficulties that involve the regional and supranational diatopic variants that are neither identified by users nor collected by dictionaries. This paper highlights the importance of having a multilingual phraseological dictionary containing a large number of phraseological units. Several research groups have been working for years in making this kind of dictionaries such as FRASYTRAM, available on the website of the University of Alicante
