Abstract

In the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (2001) the pragmatic component is part of the « communicative competence », which every student of a foreign language must achieve. This component has become more significant in the last years due to the interculturality produced by globalization, where the need to know foreign languages from a social, cultural and intercultural point of view is greater than ever. This article aims to show a few areas where pragmatics can be applied to the teaching of French as a Foreign Language, by addressing different types of learners and learning needs existing in our present complex societies, which renews the need of including pragmatics in the teaching of French.
