Abstract
Reported speech is an aspect of French grammar to be acquired by learners of French as a Foreign Language. This grammatical aspect has been researched by linguistic studies in the past few decades and there has been a renewal in its analysis and treatment. But has this been reflected in its teaching in French as a Foreign Language? Our paper studies the pedagogical approach of reported speech presented in some textbooks of French as a Foreign Language used in Spanish academic contexts. The aim here is to analyse the treatment of reported speech in those textbooks and to propose a pedagogical approach which, in our opinion, would be more adequate to its linguistic nature and more effective for learners.
