Resum

The aim of this article is to present the formal difficulties concerning the automatic translation of Spanish adverbs (ES) to Portuguese (PT). We are not directly interested in implementation issues, our goal is to find the keys that it is necessary to include in an ES> PT transfer module so that an automatic or assisted translation system can choose, among the equivalents given, the best translation. We rely on the dictionary of Spanish adverbs composed (Català, 2003) and that of Palma (2009), and also on a relational database containing the equivalences between the expressions of the two languages. Our approach consists on describing for each adverb in Spanish its Portuguese equivalents. For the selection of equivalent expressions, we have endeavored, as much as possible, to maintain lexical and structural correspondences, but also taking into account other information (diasystematic, diachronic, diafrequentative or diastratic), when available. For the empirical validation of these resources, we used a corpus of texts extracted from the web editions of Spanish newspapers.
