Resumen
Les fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil), the collection of poems which starts modern poetry, is censored by the authoritarian government of Napoleon III of outrages against public and religious morality. Both, the indictment by M. Pinard and the pleading by MeGustave Chaix d’Est-Ange, were formulated on selected verses for this purpose. This paper focuses on the judicial process whose court judgement ruled the payment of a fine to the poet and the removal of six poems from the collection.
