Abstract

The aim of this article is to present a didactic application of the teaching innovation project e-TándemUVa, a project initiated by Carmen Cuéllar Lázaro, at the University of Valladolid (UVa), whose aim is the inter-linguistic-cultural learning in binational student pairs. The presence of Spanish and French Erasmus students in the Specialised Translation class (French Major) of the Degree in Modern Languages and their Literatures at the UVa, has allowed the integration of this project in the aforementioned subject with the main objective of developing mediation {CEFR companion Volume, 2021), through the intercultural theme of humour. The first results from the sharing of work show the benefits of the exchange in developing not only linguistic and cultural skills but also mediation skills. The students experience a new way of working — preliminary work in pairs and in autonomy, and subsequent sharing in class — and become independent actors in their own learning. The integration of the project into the subject emphasises the learner as an intercultural mediating agent with different interlocutors, reflecting the communicative and social nature of foreign language acquisition.
