Resumo

When its Degree Study Program was set up in 1992, the UPF‟s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting anticipated a compulsory stay abroad on exchange for all its undergraduates, aimed at improving language and cultural awareness in a country whereone of the passive languages on offer was spoken. This term-long stay abroad began in the first term of the second year of the degree program. In the early stages, the role of the lecturers responsible for the subject involved counselling students before the exchange, adjudicating the necessary places, supervising the exchange and evaluating the work undertaken at the close of the exchange period. These initial functions have evolved over time. Today, this subject is regulated by a specific study program. The lecturers in charge have developed study materials adapted to the requirements of a subject undertaken entirely in over 20 universities at the same time in almost 10 countries in 3 continents.This experience in adapting to new technologies and new concepts of teaching was awarded the UPF‟s "Premi del Consell Social" in 2009
