Abstract

The discursive competence refers to the capacity of an individual to get by in an effective and appropriate way when using a language, combining both grammatical structures and meaning, in order to achieve a text (oral or written) in different communicative situations. Moreover, language and culture are an inseparable combination, which should be part of any postgraduate education dedicated to the training of new teachers on Spanish as a Foreign Language. One of the objectives of the second and foreign language teaching/learning process is that students produce texts in different contexts. For this reason this research has as its overall objective to considerate, in a theoretical and applied manner, the inclusion of the cultural memory as a valid learning strategy in the development of the discursive competence. This has been developed under a qualitative and quantitative methodology from the research-action point of view. Such research has concluded that the inclusion of alternative strategies is recommended for any optimal teaching/leaning process. Furthermore, it is maintained that no model for the development of the discursive competence could be of success if affective and cultural elements are not taken into account.
