Abstract

The French Age of Enlightenment was portrayed as avant-garde and pioneering in terms of the vision of women, their participation in society and their education in general, the truth is that the reality was very different. A misogynist sentiment was established in much of the political discourse and in many of the most illustrious literary productions of the time, fostering an image of the submissive and vilified woman that lasted for much of the century.
