Abstract
Le fil (1994) is the first « novel » by Christophe Bourdin who narrates in three parts – « time of hypochondria », « time of agony » and « time of dreams » - the various stages of his illness, AIDS. This article aims to examine the ways in which Bourdin perceives his body and reflects on his identity through the mirror, the Other and the page. A confrontation aggravated by the progression of his disease and comparable to Hervé Guibert’s experiences in his autobiographical narratives on AIDS: A l’ami qui ne m’a pas sauvé la vie(1990) and Le Protocole Compassionnel(1991).
