Abstract

This article describes the activities carried out in the class “Acercamiento a la canción francesa: aprender cantando” organized in March 2015 at the Universidad de Sevilla. The learning objective was to familiarise the students with the different ways in which French social and realistic popular song can offer a certain representation of French society. Thanks to the study of six contemporary songs (different musical styles, cultural references, themes, ways of speaking, registers, etc.) from both linguistic and sociocultural angles and, also, thanks to the fact that students had to sing them, we tried to create a global approach to a selection of representative French songs in order to teach French differently. We propose here a part of the results of this experiment.
