Abstract
Although French-Spanish political rivalry was at its height in the first half of the 17th century, the Spanish language was being increasingly studied in France. But the same cannot be said of the study of French in Spain. This, however, by no means reflects a lack of interest in the "language of the enemy". We shall attempt, then, to analyze this disparity, which is not as evident as it might appear at first sight.
