Resumo
Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, connoisseur of French literature, adapted for the Spanish scene three current dramas from the original versions of Augier, Maquet-Dumas and Lemoine-Scribe. Avellaneda did not restrict herself to the translation of the texts but also took advantage of those resources she considered useful in adapting for the Spanish scene of that time. In La Aventurera, one of the most outstanding features is the recreation of the personality of the main character with her psychoanalytical features, sociological realism and complaint about her female condition. La Hija del rey René is a pretty literal translation for a drama performance which was close to a social event. Finally Catilina, a piece that was never performed, is a fusion and simplification of a historical drama with sentimental amplifications. All three translations are in verse and with a great variety of meters.
