Resumen
In December 1884, Frritt-Flacc, was first published in the literary supplement Le Figaro Illustré and afterwards, in 1886, as a book, together with Un Billet de Loterie. It is a brief short story that differs significantly from the idea that most readers have about Verne’s best-known works. From the very first translation in 1885 up to the present time, 17 different formats of Spanish editions can be found, including in print, in digital format, as an audio book, on mobile applications, and so on. In this paper, we carry out a comparative study of the various types of translations, which may or may not translate the same source text, concentrating on analysing extracts depicting landscapes, scenery, and locations. The “Six-Four”, a rare building which so far has not been studied in-depth, is interpreted in detail while we also consider how translators have attempted to explain this key structural element in the Frritt-Flacc narrative. As a result, aspects of the source text that had so far remained unnoticed are identified and critically explained.
