Abstract

Arturo Pérez-Reverte is a great admirer of Alexandre Dumas. He has stated this on many occasions. The Three Musketeers is for him a reference text, especially with Milady’s character who influences many of the writer’s female creations throughout his novels. In La Reina del Sur the quintessential Dumasian text is The Count of Montecristo. Teresa Mendoza, the protagonist, discovers the novel in prison and Dante becomes a myth for her, who will serve as a model throughout her life and shape her way of seeing life and interpreting it.
