Abstract

The present study will address two issues concerning the conjugation of verbs: the « orders » (or groups, in the current terminology) of verbs, which differ according to their conjugation; and the difference between ‘primitive’ and ‘derived’ tenses. The examination of these questions will entail the analysis of the extent to which they can be employed as a (foreseeable) practical and/or pedagogical tool for grammarians, as they will allow us to understand the mechanism of verb creation in the different verbal moods, tenses and persons (« verbal morphology ») and to provide learners with rational or mnemonic means stemming from a reduced number of learning forms or procedures.
