Abstract
Born in Paris, André Gide, was however derived from two strains transplanted, his mother¿s family was from Normandy and his paternal family from Languedoc. The differences in the two families, through which itself wanted to explain his tenure ambiguity and his vocation as an artist, however, were not so great; Gide was a child of the upper middle class and born of two Protestant lineage. This legacy played a fundamental role in his psychology. Therefore, it seems particularly interesting to go back as far as possible in his childhood and reveal the genesis of the environment in which he was born, to better understand the motivations and mechanisms of his literary creation
