Abstract

During the Spanish Civil War, Denis Marion (1906-2000) has been, without any doubt, one of the most active and committed Belgian intellectual to the Spanish Republic. Since the very beginning of the hostilities, as editor in chief of the Belgian anti-fascist newspaper Combat, he kept on encouraging his homologues to support the legal Spanish government and to report the aggressions of the fascist powers against the Spanish people. In July 1937, Marion took part in the Second meeting of the Association internationale des écrivains pour la défense de culture in Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona; from his stay in Spain, he left us an important testimony. In 1938-1939, he will be Malraux assistant in the stage of Sierra de Teruel.
