Resum
During the French preciosity movement, women achieve a prominent place in society by performing an essentially civilizing role. Nevertheless, some ladies seem to avoid that purpose and get involved in duels in order to solve love issues, to defend their or somebody else’s honor or to make social justice. These women, who handle weapons skillfully, do not only appear surprising or scandalous, but also defy authority. Although since 1626, duels were forbidden throughout the French territory, under penalty of death for offenders, the French criminal case law did not even consider female duelists.
