Resum

Community interpreters are in great demand now, however, in some countries, some other professionals (or even volunteers) are playing their role many times. This could be a risk for intercultural communication matters, as the person working as an interpreter must know the cultures involved, specialized terminology and the job. With this article we would like to highlight that, in order to become a good community interpreter, it is necessary to know much more than languages. The interpreter has to know the protocols, structure and system of the place he/she works for, and he/she has to acquire a specific training in the terminolgy-culture used in this context. As there are many situations where community interpreting can be required, we would focus our study in Córdoba´s Police Station (Departamento de Extranjería de la Comisaría de Córdoba). We will look into the most frequently used languages, people nationalities, the police station operational system, interpreters hiring and forms. With all this information, we will try to propose an exercice and solutions to community interpreting training.
