Abstract
Although Dumas published Le Capitaine Pamphile in a children’s magazine, the content and purpose of the story goes far beyond this audience. This article focuses on the singular structure of the story and the subversion of the heroic figure. The author combines several fashionable narrative patterns with his critical eye and humour becomes a source of irony. In this way, as well as through the presence of animals as protagonists, the writing aims to question the social values of capitalism.
