Resumen
This paper revisits the significance of space and memory in shaping identity in a body of work taken from a number of female Mediterranean authors, such as Carmelina Sánchez Cutillas (Valencia), Montserrat Roig and Mercè Ibarz (Barcelona), Carme Riera (Mallorca), Marta Querol (Valencia), and Rosa Ribas (Barcelona). Women, according to feminist theory, do not “make” history. The analysis of these writings aims to uncover the missing links in accounts of feminine and inconspicuous life and to put them into a broader context. Through imagery of Mediterranean scenery and through memory, women comprehend the world and gradually become part of history.
