Resumen

In an investigation about «the come to the writing» (according to the expression of Luce Irigaray) of Laure Conan, the first novelist from Quebec, we observe the previous conditions to the writing. The first of these conditions is obviously the reading. To read, it is necessary to have learnt to read. We describe the history of the education in Quebec during the 19th century, covering from the primary education until the University. We observe with attention the situation objectively more difficult of the women in this process of intellectual training. e analyse the places of the public reading with the bookshops, the libraries, the libraries of the parishes and the distinct institutes. Finally, we understand that these different physical places materialise the fight of the different intellectual currents that face to in the heart of the French Canadian society of this period. These different places stage the opposition of the Catholics by a part and of the liberals on the other hand.
