Abstract

The incorporation of the performing arts education to the European Higher Education Spac e, together with the new possibility of articulating the under graduate studies and masters, has opened up a broad debate about the function of research both in teaching and in the deepening on the knowledge of the contemporary art practices. The performing arts are an emerging research area where the new phenomenon and transformations that operate in the contemporary scene thinking and practices is being essayed to be tackled. Current research development includes the implication of the roll of participants in the meaning conveyance process. It assumes that the interrelations that are produced between the subject and the object of research are a substantial part of both meaning conveyance and the research results. Hermeneutics and phenomenology are not only the epistemic framework for practical research development and for the narrative expression of the auto-ethnography but they are also a privileged form of discussion and knowledge com munication. This work enquires the way in which contemporary s taging poses a mirror game between the artistic practices and their theory production, requiring the artistic object to formulate its own theory and inscribe its metalanguage in it. The contemporary meaningful gesture denies the modern idea of author as a producer and unified source of meaning, turning its interest to the production and circulation processes of meaning. They are interested on the "telling" strategies and on the disposition of the look that requires the sensitive and cognitive participation in order to be actualized.
