Zusammenfassung

The doctoral thesis entitled A Study of the French Lexis of Organic Farming. Terminology. Neology. Translation into Spanish: a Contrastive Perspective centres on the French lexis in the field of Organic Farming (OF), its possible integration into the lexicographical repertoire of the language, and the translation of the terms into Spanish. In the first place, for our research work we carried out a selection process of the many documents referring to OF in French which are available on the Internet and which have been published by official organisms, universities and colleges, official and non-official associations, companies, on-line journals, and individuals interested in OF. In second place, the items, both simple and complex, were classified and analysed, above all with regard to their morphological characteristics and the process by which they were formed, distinguishing several categories: simple items formed through derivation, simple items formed through composition, simple items formed through shortening, and simple items formed with suffixes. The complex items have also been described with regard to their forms and combinations, and likewise we refer to the autonomous item BIO and what this term stands for in the literature. Following this we indicate which items from our corpus appear in the three dictionaries we consulted: Diccionario de Agricultura de Haensch (1996), Gran Diccionario Larousse (1999) and the Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique on Line (2002). Lastly, we proposed Spanish equivalents for all the French items that were dealt with in our corpus, which, in turn, led us to make a series of observations on the notion of technical translation. The research work which was initiated in this doctoral thesis will, undoubtedly, continue in the future with the aim of gaining increased knowledge concerning terminology studies and the lexicography of specific linguistic forms.
